Toxicology and Environmental Health Sciences Cluster Curriculum


I. REQUIRED BMS CORE COURSES
   BMS 600 Biochemical, Molecular and Cellular Foundations (6 hrs.)
   BMS 680 Seminar (6 hrs.)
   BMS 660 and 661 Communications I & II
   BMS 685 intro to research
   BMS 882 max of 15 hrs.
   Statistics (PSY 517, EDF 517, MTH 580)

II. REQUIRED TOXICOLOGY COURSES
    PHS 628  Neurophysiology (2 hrs.)  and PHS 629  Physiology (6 hrs.)
    PMC 650 Toxicology (3 hrs.)
    PMC 655 Toxicology Reviews (1 hr) total  3 hrs.

III. SUGGESTED ELECTIVES
    The following courses are suggested as electives for students and a course(s) may be 
    required by the dissertation committee.     
      BMS 670 Molecular Cloning (2 hrs.)
      BIC   643 Signal Transduction (3 hrs.)
      MCB 648 Molecular Basis of Pathogenesis (3 hrs.)
      PMC 610 Introduction to Pharmacology (3 hrs.)

IV. QUALIFYING EXAM
     A. Written
          - Course work

     B. Oral
          - The student must first successfully complete the written exams. A written
     grant in the style of an NIH Predoctoral grant proposal format must be
     submitted on either the student’s research project or another topic. The
     grant must be submitted within two (2) months of completion of the written 
     exam. The Oral examination is a defense of the grant application. The NIH

V. OTHER ACTIVITIES
    Students are stongly urged to attend one national scientific meeting and present the 
    results of their research.
