A New Beginning for Minority Students interested in Research

Marshall University's Biomedical Sciences graduate program is pleased to announce its first annual Summer Research Internship for Minority Students (SRIMS) to take place the summer of 2009. The program is nine weeks of graduate-level research in the field of biomedical sciences and runs from June 1st through July 31st .

Participants will receive formal research training while expanding their learning experience through workshops, seminars on current topics, mentoring and use of state-of-the-art core facilties.  The vision behind Marshall's commitment to this program is twofold:  1. To establish a pipeline of minority students into health-related research.  2. To enrich the current biomedical sciences research through an added diversity of ideas, perspectives, and cultures.  As a result of this vision, this internship is a win-win for both participants and Marshall University.

We are pleased to announce that Khyra Fullen and Alexander Salazar have been selected to kick off this new and exciting internship for minority students!  The process was definitely competitive and involved applicants from numerous states, including: Alabama, California, Georgia, Ohio, Texas, and West Virginia.  Both interns attend Marshall University and are interested in pursuing research as part of their future careers.
